Catch me if you can: Mitani leads the chase to Indonesia

25 September 2024

The Japanese star has three wins in the opening four races as home hero Ramadhipa aims to close the gap in Indonesia

After two rounds – first in Qatar, then in Malaysia – the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup field are ready for action to fully click into gear as Round 3 beckons at the Indonesian GP alongside MotoGP™.

And heading to the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, Zen Mitani boasts a 24-point lead in the standings after the Japanese rider picked up an impressive three wins in the first four races. The #2’s other result was a P2 in the second Qatar GP race, so it’s been a near-perfect start to the campaign, and Mitani has a podium pedigree in Lombok having collected a P3 and a P2 last year.

Fronting the chasing pack is Indonesia’s own Kiandra Ramadhipa. The #7 won Race 2 in Qatar and added a P2 result in Malaysia, so Ramadhipa will be hunting a return to the top step on home turf – just as reigning Champion Veda Pratama did in 2023.

Six points in arrears of Ramadhipa is Riichi Takahira, who will be hungry to add a 25-point haul to his name in 2024 having racked up three podiums in the first four races – the best being a P2 in the opening race in Lusail.

Kiattisak Singhapong – the rider fourth in the standings – will be going in search of a first rostrum finish of the year, while Farish Hafiy and Ryota Ogiwara aim to add two podiums to their one apiece in the hope of climbing further towards the Cup summit.

Rama Putra is the other Indonesian rider to look out for as we look forward to action getting back underway. Race 1 begins at 16:10 local time (UTC+8) on Saturday afternoon before Race 2 kicks off Sunday’s track activities at 09:45.
