The application process to find new members of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup for 2018 has ended for another year.
Over 500 applicants have put their names forward for the Selection Event this season, which is when the final decision is taken on the 22 riders who will contest the 2018 edition of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup.
The campaign began on July 8th with publication of the news on the official website of the Championship, utilising various forms of registration through a communication campaign aimed at all young riders in Asia, Australia and New Zealand who aspire to be a World Champion.
The selection process to find the 22 young riders who will fill the starting grid of the 2018 cup is now well underway. A key date now is the Selection Event in Sepang on October 24th and 25th, ahead of the last race of the season of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup. There, the name of the 2017 champion will also be announced as the Cup races alongside MotoGP™ at Sepang International Circuit.
Selection Event
There will be a first selection of riders invited along to the event who must pass a series of road tests. In these tests, the candidates will have all of their actions and general attitude observed. Subsequently, the selection committee will meet again and after analysing what the applicants have demonstrated, they will announce the list of finalists for 2018.
All applications will be carefully analysed by the selection committee headed by Alberto Puig, Director of the Talent Promotion Department who is responsible, amongst others, of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup and Asia Talent Team in the CEV Moto3™ Junior World Championship.
Dorna CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta: “The journey started four years ago to lay the groundwork for the promotion of new riders with the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup. It’s proving successful after seeing the figures of so many young riders from Asia, Australia and New Zealand who have signed up for the 2018 edition. During this time we have achieved excellent results thanks also to the solid work carried out by the sponsors, circuits and promoters who have shared the idea of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup as an effective tool to help young drivers form and grow, both athletically and as people.”
