Sepang, last stop of the 2015 Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup

22 October 2015

The second edition of the Cup ends this weekend with two races run alongside the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup 2015 will see its season come to a close this weekend with two races at the Sepang International Circuit. The season began back in March in Chang (Thailand) and has visited Qatar, Malaysia, China, and Japan, it will now return to Malaysia once again.

On a sporting level, the title has already been decided with Japan’s Ayumu Sasaki having wrapped it up at his home round in Japan. A win and a second place finish at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit make it mathematically impossible for the other riders to beat him. But the excitement and action still rolls into Sepang as the field battles for second overall.

With 50 points at stake, several candidates are in with a chance. Japanese riders Masaki and Kunimine head to Malaysia tied on points with 117 each followed by Thailand’s Atiratphuvapat on 105. Indonesia’s Salim, on 102 points, and Japan’s Ogura, on 101 points, are also in the running. Izdihar from Indonesia, Japan’s Date and home heroes Norrodin, Rostam and Azman from Malaysia are all also within 50 points of second place.

Among the regular participants of the Cup, both Somkiat Chantra and China’s Pengyuan Chen will continue to sit out through injury. Chen will be replaced by countryman Zhou Shengjunjie. Luth Erwan and Idham Khairuddin will also wildcard at their home round alongside Yuto Fukushima from Japan.

On track action will begin on Friday for the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup riders, two 30 minute practice sessions will run before Qualifying takes place at 17:25 Local Time.

On Saturday the first race will run at 16:30LT and take place over 13 laps. Sunday will be the last race of 2015 for the Cup, also taking place at 16:30LT and run over 13 laps.
