Round 2 is just around the corner as the class of 2024 head back on track at Sepang
he 2024 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup returns soon at Sepang International Circuit, with the second round set to take place from the 16th to the 18th of August. After a long five-month break since the thrilling opener in Qatar back in March, the young riders are eager to get back on track and continue their pursuit of glory on the Road to MotoGP™.
Japanese riders Zen Mitani and Riichi Takahira, currently first and third in the standings respectively, will look to leverage their previous successes at Sepang as they reignite their campaigns. Takahira, who claimed victory in Race 1 and a strong P2 finish in Race 2 at last year’s August Sepang round, will be hoping to repeat his performance and make up ground in the championship standings. Championship leader Mitani, meanwhile, took P3 in both races on his way to a top five finish at the end of the year.
Mitani made a great start to the 2024 season in Qatar with a Race 1 victory and Race 2 P2 and could be poised to further extend his lead, capitalising on his fond history with the Malaysian circuit. It won’t be easy though, expect strong performances from the likes of Indonesia’s Kiandra Ramadhipa, who sits second in the standings after an impressive Race 2 win in Qatar.
With such a long gap since the season opener, the riders will be eager to shake off any rust and regain their momentum, and none more so than the Malaysian riders on the ATC grid—Asyraff Zaquan, Farhan Naqib, and Farish Hafiy – who will be hoping to put on a show in front of their home crowd.
